Valentine is also known as Saint Valentine of Rome, is a third-century Roman saint widely celebrated on February 14 and commonly associated with love. It is also agreed that Saint Valentine was martyred and buried on the Via Flaminia to the north of Rome.
In 1969, the Roman Catholic Church removed St. Valentine from the General Roman Calendar, because nothing much was known about him, but still the church still recognizes him as a saint, listing him in the February 14 spot of Roman Martyrolgy.
According to history survey, saint valentine healed the daughter of a renowned judge, who was blind known as Judge Asterius, and this encouraged him to convert his entire household of about 44 to Christianity and also freed his prisoners, who were Christians. Saint Valentine was arrested and jailed by Roman emperor Claudius Gothicus for marrying Christian couples and aiding Christians to be persecuted by Claudius in Rome. He later did worst in an attempt to convince Claudius to be a Christian. Claudius became angry with him and sentenced Valentine to death, commanding him to renounce his faith or be beaten with clubs and beheaded.
Saint Valentine refused to renounce his faith and Christianity and was executed outside the Flaminian Gate either on February 14; 269, 270, 273 or 280. The romantic nature of Valentine’s Day might have been derived during the middle Ages, when it was believed that birds paired couples in mid-February.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14 yearly. It is a festival of romantic love and many people give cards, letters, flowers and presents to their spouse or partner.
