Game of Thrones is over, but if HBO has their way, we won’t be away from Westeros for too long. Filming has begun on a pilot for Game of Thrones prequel show, which might be called Blood moon or The Long Night, we’re not sure yet, but we know that it’s happening underway in Northern Ireland.
Bloodmoon takes place thousands of years before Thrones, in a time when mammoths, giants, direwolves and other legendary creatures were more common.
To catch folks up to speed, to what the Blood Moon team has been filming so far has involved caves. They’ve built a cave system at Titanic Studios, and they’re currently shooting on location at the Marble Arch Caves in County Fermanagh. It looks like they’re making a little cave system, which immediately makes one think of the Children of the Forest, who live in caves and trees and other natural structures.
Between the weirwood, the mammoths, and the caves, I’m betting at least a good chunk of the pilot will take place in the North, or maybe beyond the area where the Wall will one day stand. We’ll keep you posted. Blood moon is set thousands of years before the mainline series, back when the Children were still more common in Westeros. Will they have a big presence on the show?
